Frequently Asked Questions – Just the FAQsQ. What is Lifecare?
A. Lifecare is a contract that guarantees health coverage. As a lifecare retirement community, Pomperaug Woods offers a full continuum of care designed to meet residents’ healthcare needs as they change over time. Typically, a lifecare community includes independent residences, assistance-in-living, and licensed skilled nursing care on one campus setting. A long-term care insurance component is an integral part of the lifecare residency contract. The lifecare contract ensures that the monthly fees are fixed, subject only to incremental annual increases established for all residents, regardless of the level of care. While a lifecare community may use the terms “lifecare” or “continuing care retirement community” (CCRC) when referring to itself, CCRCs may not use the term “lifecare” if they offer only a partial continuum of care or if monthly fees can rise with higher levels of care or market rate increases.
Q. What is Meant by Predictable Monthly Fee?
A. You pay a one-time entrance fee and a monthly service fee that includes your apartment, one meal per day, utilities and all the services and the amenities we provide. This fee includes all skilled nursing care, and limited assistance-in-living services if needed. Incremental adjustments are typically made once a year.
Q. Is the Health Center Medicare certified?
A. Yes. Unlike many other retirement communities throughout the state, our Health Center is fully Medicare-Certified. This means you if you qualify for Medicare, you won’t have to waive your right for Medicare coverage at Pomperaug Woods. Medicare could cover many aspects of your care including meals, medicine, housing, therapy and more. If you live in a community that is not Medicare certified, many of these costs would have to paid out of pocket.
