Pomperaug Woods Presents “The Art of Experience”

Juried Art Show on Sept 23, 24 & 25 Showcases Talent of Connecticut
Artists Age 70+
Juried Art Show Continues to Grow in Popularity & Regard

SOUTHBURY, Connecticut (August 1, 2011) – Pomperaug Woods, Southbury’s only not-for-profit retirement community, will host the Connecticut 4th Annual Senior Juried Art Show September 23 to 25 to showcase the work of talented Connecticut artists –all of whom are 70+ years of age. Themed as “The Art of Experience,” all art work submitted in the show was created after the artists’ 70th birthday.

The Connecticut Senior Juried Art Show, produced by and hosted at Pomperaug Woods, is designed to highlight the talent, wisdom and vitality of seniors. This is the first and only art show of its type in Connecticut. In fact, this enduring community event has become instilled in the Southbury/ Tribury culture as the art show has significantly increased in popularity. In 2009, there were 99 submissions, and in 2010, there were 203 submissions. This year, the community received more than 400 submissions from 142 artists from all corners of Connecticut (36 different towns are represented, which is 17 more than in 2010). Of those 400 submissions, 225 were chosen for inclusion in the 2011 Senior Juried Art Show. Categories in the show include Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media and Photography. There will be 16 winners overall; four per category.
