Resident Art Adorns Trump Plaza

pomperaug woods

Trump was so impressed with the art work of Pomperaug Woods resident Hermine Gerner Rink that three of her paintings were purchased to hang in Trump Plaza. The theme of the trio, Riverside Drive in Manhattan, portrays mostly boats – a perfect complement to the views from Trump Plaza.

Mrs. Gerner Rink has been a resident of Pomperaug Woods for six years. Read on to learn more about Mrs. Gerner Rink’s art her experiences at Pomperaug Woods.

What did you think when you learned your art was purchased to hang in Trump Towers?
“I wasn’t really surprised. My son has influence in his architectural firm.” Mrs. Gerner Rink’s son is the Gerner in the Park Avenue firm Gerner Kronick & Valcarcel.

Have you been painting your whole life, and do you enjoy painting at Pomperaug Woods?
“I started drawing when I was an infant... with my first crayons. My favorite Christmas present was colored pencils.”

Art runs in the family. In addition to her son’s architecturally-inclined talents, and love of painting, her great grandfather was a stone mason and fashioned many fountains and other architectural elements in Germany.

Today, Mrs. Gerner Rink’s apartment home overlooking the Pomperaug Woods gazebo is filled with her paintings, and her bedroom / art studio provide space to stow paintings that are not currently hung. She can often be found, day or evening, using Pomperaug Woods’ creative arts studio, which is available for residents to use outside of class time, according to their own schedule. She also enjoys the art classes and instructors Pomperaug Woods offers:

“Lisa Huebenthal is a wonderful, wonderful teacher. I care for her a lot.”

What’s your favorite part about living at Pomperaug Woods?
“I feel safe here.”
