During the winter months, it can be hard to keep up with everyday chores like home maintenance, laundry and scraping car windows, especially during severe weather. However, during the early snowstorm that knocked out power for thousands of Connecticut residents, Pomperaug Woods residents stayed dry, warm and comfortable.
Residents have shared their feelings with Carol Ann McCormick, director of marketing: “We don’t worry about being left without food, having heat or water [at Pomperaug Woods]. When you come to live here, you are in a position to help others. You should have seen the dining room here at Pomperaug Woods… so many residents had friends and family in to enjoy a nice hot meal or a warm shower or use the guest bedroom. They came because they were out of power and relied on the generosity of their friends and family who live at Pomperaug Woods.
Before moving to Pomperaug Woods, we often unexpectedly found ourselves being the plumber and the carpenter at our house. The key to life at Pomperaug Woods is that there is someone on staff to take care of anything and everything - even weather-related events. We should have come sooner―now we don’t worry about life’s ‘what ifs.’
[The Pomperaug Woods] staff is always on hand, even around the clock, because sometimes problems happen at night. Safety is a factor and knowing there is ALWAYS someone available is a tremendous emotional comfort.”
